Do your summer travel plans seem to be less within reach? No problem. Your escape could be closer than you think. That's if you're open to a staycation. After all, today's sunroom could make for an at-home escape or mini vacation, according to interior designer Rachel Greathouse.

An extension of the living space in your home, the sunroom is "a place to relax and escape, to enjoy a good book and a cup of coffee," says Greathouse, owner of Rachel Greathouse Design ( www.rachelgreathousedesign.com ).

When making over your sunroom, consider this checklist provided by Greathouse:

  • A rug that grounds the space
  • Comfortable furniture
  • Cozy chair (such as a slipcovered option)
  • Fun paint color
  • Accent pillows
  • Good lighting
  • Coffee table books
  • Small table
