Among the devotees of all things Disney, there's never a need for
pixie dust to convince anyone that it's prime time for a magical
getaway. They already know that all the company’s theme parks
are up to their mouse ears in the Happiest Celebration on Earth
– a grand global wingding launched last July to mark the milestone
birthday of Disneyland in Southern California, where it all began
a half-century ago.
The company is not only serving up a smorgasbord of new shows and
attractions from Anaheim to Orlando and Tokyo to Paris-not to mention
Hong Kong Disneyland, which debuted in September – but continuing
the party at full tilt for 18 months.
If a Disney jaunt is on your calendar, you don’t want to miss
out on a program guaranteed to grant your fondest wishes. Not a
new offering-but not widely known, either-Disney’s VIP Tour
Services are sure to put a smile on the face of any traveler with
a taste for the best.
“It’s a personal, one-on-one service for guests who
want the ultimate in a Disney vacation,” says Rob Highfill,
coordinator of Special Activities and VIP Tour Services at Walt
Disney World. “We’ve found that there are people who
are accustomed to having assistance in their everyday lives, and
who want the same sort of service when they come here, along with
higher-end amenities and a more luxurious experience. The greatest
thing is that they don’t have to be opening maps and checking
on show schedules, or even thinking about what to do next. All of
this is handled by their guide. If they utilize our transportation
service, they’ll be whisked away to backstage parking locations
and enter the area directly.”
Would you relish a private tennis lesson, or a round or two on a
great golf course? A session behind the wheel of a race car, or
rejuvenating treatments at a spa? Just ask.
“Once the hotel reservation is made, we can handle everything
else from custom-tailoring tours to meeting guests at the airport,”
Highfill says. “Any guest at a Disney World resort can book
our services, although most are staying at the premium resorts.”
Indeed, the sweet life at the top properties should prove irresistible
to all who prefer to take their getaways with a spoonful of sugar.
Eight deluxe resort hotels-Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Animal
Kingdom Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Yacht Club, BoardWalk,
Contemporary, and Polynesian-boast their own concierge club with
a roster of offerings from complimentary breakfasts to the new Wildlife
Discovery safari amid the free-roaming animal population at the
Animal Kingdom Lodge.
The living is especially easy at the Sugar Loaf Club and Royal Palm
Club of the Grand Floridian. Fit for a prince and princess of any
age, rooms are done up in warm woods and bright fabrics with four-poster
beds and a balcony. A Victorian gingerbread fantasy of a resort,
Grand Floridian comes wrapped in sun-sparkled swimming pools, a
powdered-sugar beach, and a 9,000-square-foot spa.
Not surprisingly, fine dining is a key aspect of the VIP program,
which will handle all arrangements for visitors to experience such
culinary stars as California Grill, Coral Reef, and Hollywood Brown
Derby. In a class by itself is Grand Floridian’s Victoria
& Albert’s, which claims Central Florida’s only
AAA five-diamond ranking. Elegant and intimate with exquisite service,
the restaurant sports 700 wine selections on the menu with 4,200
bottles tucked away in the cellar. While Chef Scott Hunnel changes
the menu almost daily, his signature dishes-pan-roasted foie gras
and peach tart, for instance-are not to be missed.

from a fairy-tale production in the Magic Kingdom to a Hollywood
extravaganza at Disney-MGM Studios.
