Research. Awareness. Effective Treatment. These elements shape the constant focus of Georgia organizations devoted to finding a cure for cancer.
This fall, Jenny Pruitt, president and CEO of Jenny Pruitt & Associates and herself a cancer survivor, joined volunteers on the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk and overnight camping along the 60-mile route. Walkers were, according to Jenny, “exhilarated by the camaraderie and commitment we shared. It was an awe-inspiring three days.” Jenny’s husband Bob was among the hundreds of men who teamed up for the marathon. “The increased number of men participants is a significant step forward in building greater awareness of this disease,” Jenny added. Proceeds funded research and patient support programs.
An advocate for cancer research and a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Cancer Coalition, Jenny noted that “one in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. Even more staggering is the fact that 220,000 women will be stricken with the disease in one year.” A sought-after lecturer on cancer awareness, Jenny just served as honorary chair of the Pink Ribbons Luncheon and Fashion Show, a benefit for the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition Fund. Having supported the event since its inception over a decade ago, Jenny reported over 500 guests attended, with proceeds topping $75,000.
“Every event encourages current and new supporters to become involved in helping find a cure,” Jenny explained. “Volunteers work to raise funds for research, and in doing so, we form friendships with capable and dedicated women.” To volunteer, call the Georgia Cancer Coalition at (404) 584-7720.
