The Atlanta Police Foundation is joining Season Magazine in presenting the inaugural Policeman’s Ball. “A Night in Blue” will be a celebration of the officers of the Atlanta Police Department. The event takes place April 8, 2006, at the InterContinental Buckhead.
“Our sole purpose is to drive down crime in the city of Atlanta,” says Dave Wilkinson, President & CEO of the Atlanta Police Foundation. “Over the past two years Chief Richard Pennington and the Atlanta Police Department have reduced crime in Atlanta by 17% and we are on track for an even greater decrease in 2006. The Ball will not only be a celebration of the tremendous strides the Department has made, proceeds from the Ball will support programs and initiatives that will allow this momentum to continue as we strive to reach our ultimate goal of becoming the safest major city in America.” Wilkinson recently retired as head of the Secret Service Georgia where he led security operations for the G-8 Summit at Sea Island, GA. Prior to coming to Georgia, he was the Assistant Agent in Charge of President Bush's security detail at the White House. He was with President Bush and supervised security efforts on 9/11.
Mayor Shirley Franklin is honorary chair. Gloria Lane and Tom Sangster of Season Magazine and community leaders Wanda McGaha and Wendy Babchin are event chairs.
